Fungi

WHAT ARE FUNGI?

Neither a plant nor an animal, they are classified as a whole separate kingdom. Fungi are cells that are connected with channels between each cell. These channels allow proteins, nuclei and fluids to travel through them. Unlike plants, they cannot make their own food, so their food source is their surroundings. Fungi are considered microbes and macrobes because they range in sizes. (T-50, T-51)

Fungi are essential for decomposition, feeding off of organic compounds. The fungi mushroom is also a food source, being that it is something that animals can consume. The antibiotic pencillin is also derives from fungi. (T-51)

WHAT DO THEY DO?

HOW DO FUNGAL INFECTIONS AFFECT US?

Fungal infections are illnesses caused by a fungus. There are multiple ways one can get these illnesses, such as breathing air contaminated with spores or by coming in contact with them. Most fungi are not harmful, however, one can get sick from the wrong kinds. Those with weaker immune systems are more likely to get sick. These diseases can be difficult to kill.
